The domain name

ptworld.net (pronounced ‘p t world.net’) was registered in 1999, a year after I set up PT Internet as a consultancy service on web hosting and site development for the non-profit sector.

The domain was chosen for being short, whilst incorporating several aspects:

  • .net domain: originally intended for technical network service providers, it became more broadly associated with Internet-related activities as ‘the Net’ became a topic of everyday conversation (as reflected in publications such as “.net”.  Initial consultancy was aimed at charities that wanted to establish a presence on the Internet at a time when hosting platforms were relatively undeveloped
  • p t: not just the initials of Paul Trafford … think ‘people’ & ‘technology’ – the order is important! Also, it can be pronounced like the Pali word, pīi, which means joy!
  • world: service is rooted in a global perspective; clients likewise.
